'BEAUTY QUEENS CAN' COMMUNITY SERVICE CAMPAIGN
Making a difference in the greater Gaston region ...
The Miss Gastonia Scholarship Association launched the 'Beauty Queens
Can' community service campaign in August 2009. The effort is designed to show people that our pageant contestants can make a difference in the community.
"Community service is an important part of being a beauty queen,"
says Delores Cox, executive director. "Miss Gastonia, Miss Gaston County, and our Outstanding Teens are like many young women
across the country - they are a part of the Miss America Organization, which places special emphasis on
community service. We look forward to seeing how our 'Beauty Queens Can' campaign makes a difference in the Gaston region."
Miss Gastonia Mikhaila Leinbach, Miss Gaston County Shaina Anderson,
Miss Gastonia's Outstanding Teen Hannah Baldwin, and Miss Gaston County's Outstanding Teen Lauren Hossfeld are active in a
variety of community service projects.
Their community service activities include:
+ Donating food, clothing, toiletries, etc. to shelters for women
and children
+ Collecting school supplies, teddy bears, and toys for needy children
+ Sponsoring a Christmas party for the West Gastonia Boys and Girls
Club
+ Collecting pet food and supplies for a local animal rescue agency
+ Organizing an outdoor beautification project at The Shelter of Gaston
County
+ Visiting schools to talk about good grades, setting goals,
career choices, etc.
+ Serving as positive role models for children and teens
Our representatives are also raising money for the Children's Miracle
Network, which is the Miss America Organization's national charity.
